Performance of the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration equation to estimate glomerular filtration rate in a longitudinal study of Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease
نویسندگان
چکیده
Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) can only be measured indirectly1. The gold standard is the renal clearance of inulin. Because it is cumbersome, alternative methods such as the renal clearance of iothalamate and plasma clearance of iohexol were developed. Other methods estimate GFR using equations based on endogenous filtration markers such as creatinine and cystatin C2. The Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) equation is recommended for GFR estimation.

KHA-CARI Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease Guideline: Monitoring Disease Progression.
a. We do not recommend performing serial ultrasound, renal computed tomography, or magnetic resonance imaging for monitoring disease progression, unless there are other clinical reasons for repeating these tests (eg, hematuria, pain, fever) (1B) b. We suggest using renal function (ie, estimated glomerular filtration rate and albuminuria) rather than imaging to monitor disease progression (2B) c...
متن کاملMeasuring and Estimating GFR and Treatment Effect in ADPKD Patients: Results and Implications of a Longitudinal Cohort Study
Trials failed to demonstrate protective effects of investigational treatments on glomerular filtration rate (GFR) reduction in Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD). To assess whether above findings were explained by unreliable GFR estimates, in this academic study we compared GFR values centrally measured by iohexol plasma clearance with corresponding values estimated by Chronic...
متن کاملTubular secretion of creatinine in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease: consequences for cross-sectional and longitudinal performance of kidney function estimating equations.
BACKGROUND Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is characterized by renal tubular cell proliferation and dedifferentiation, which may influence tubular secretion of creatinine (CCr[TS]). STUDY DESIGN Diagnostic test study. SETTING & PARTICIPANTS We therefore investigated CCr(TS) in patients with ADPKD and controls and studied consequences for the performance of glomerular fi...
متن کاملClinical Characteristics and Disease Predictors of a Large Chinese Cohort of Patients with Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease
OBJECTIVE Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is a relentlessly progressing form of chronic kidney disease for which there is no cure. The aim of this study was to characterize Chinese patients with ADPKD and to identify the factors which predict cyst growth and renal functional deterioration. METHODS To analyze disease predicting factors we performed a prospective longitudin...
متن کاملProgression of autosomal dominant kidney disease: measurement of the stage transitions of chronic kidney disease
BACKGROUND Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is a progressive genetic disorder characterized by the development of numerous kidney cysts that result in kidney failure. Little is known regarding the key patient characteristics and utilization of healthcare resources for ADPKD patients along the continuum of disease progression. This observational study was designed to describe...
